Government recognition matters, but it is not the only meaningful question about charitable purpose, conduct, evidence, trust and public benefit.

Philanthropist.org separates platform charitable status from legal charitable status. Government authorities remain authoritative for the legal consequences within their jurisdictions. The platform can separately evaluate whether an activity appears charitable or public-benefit under transparent published standards.

Five questions

  1. What is the activity trying to accomplish?
  2. Is the purpose charitable or public-benefit in character?
  3. Is the person or organization conducting it as represented?
  4. How trustworthy is the evidence and operating history?
  5. What legal, tax, licensing, sanctions, fundraising or regulatory rules apply to this transaction?
